Night at the Museum
The museums offered in the Oklahoma City Metro are full of memorable moments and beautiful art. Many don’t consider museums in Oklahoma to be an attraction, but there is definitely art worth seeing. Whether you know your art or not you will have a great time! Beat the heat and take a day to enjoy some of Oklahoma’s hidden gems.
Fred Jones JR Museum of Art
The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art is home to numerous collections of artwork. From photography to Native American works, and from French Impressionism to Southwest American works, and much more, the museum’s permanent collection is bolstered considerably by the generosity of others. You can find this museum in Norman, on the edge of the University of Oklahoma camps. It adds great diversity and culture to the campus.
Oklahoma Museum of Art
The Oklahoma Museum of Art is one of the most well known museums in OKC. The location is phenomenal being among other entertainment sites.The Museum’s collection covers a period of five centuries with highlights in European and American art from the nineteenth through twenty-first centuries, a growing collection of contemporary art, and one of the world’s largest collections of glass sculpture by Dale Chihuly as pictured below. The MOA has a delicious cafe next door, making it a great date destination. They also host events through the summer, so make sure you check their calendar!
Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum
As many know, the Oklahoma bombing was a horrifying moment in 1995. This Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum was built to honor those lost in the tragedy. The museum is a great history lesson and very interesting as actual artifacts from the bombing are displayed. You walk through a room that reenacts the event. This memorial is insightful and definitely worth the visit.
21 C Hotel Museum
The 21 C Museum is one of OKC’s newest museum. It is a modern design with contemporary art. 21 C is geared toward the younger crowd especially with the boutique lounge next door. It is a free entrance and always a great experience. It makes for a great Instagram opt by the way;)
